A Journey Through Time

Art by Ruquaiya Monargent

This series begins at Al Rifa’i Mosque in Cairo, where history and architecture merge in perfect harmony. Built as a tribute to the grandeur of the fourteenth-century mosque of al-Sultan Hassan, Al Rifa’i Mosque stands as a testament to Egypt’s rich heritage and architectural evolution. Visitors are captivated by its intricately adorned outer walls, massive columns, and graceful minarets. Notably, this was the first Islamic monument in Egypt to incorporate cement, symbolizing a shift toward modernity. Walking through this historic structure, I sought to capture its timeless spirit—a living connection between past and present.
